At 11054131, Thane is India's largest
district in terms of population. With 15% tribal population
and over 70 000 disabled population (census 2001), a
great combination of urban, rural, agriculture, industry
and handicrafts, the district is mini India, except
perhaps the problems of naxalism.
We have visited 1021 rural schools of the district
last year and are currently taking a competition involving
130 Ashram Shala's (over 50 000 students) with TJSB.
We are also working on a project to help girls from
4th and 7th standard in their scholarship and girld
from 5th standard in their navodaya exams. This programme,
sponsored by Tata Power is being run in Sakur Ashram
Shala which has 600 girls. If you want to see the

with our teacher.
We have now developed a network in about 1000 villages
of Thane district and would be happy to work with
you on just any programme of your interest.
