Brief About Khargone District
Khargone lies in a tract which has always been, historically important for its being on the easiest natural route that connects the northern & southern parts of India. Most parts of the district were included, at different times,in the kingdoms of the early Haihayas of Mahishmati, the Parmars of Malwa, the Ahirs of Asirgarh, Mohammedan kings of Mandu, the Moughals, the Peshwa & other Maratha Sardars - Holkar, Sciendia, Pawar.
         
Geography & Rivers
Khargone District with its headquarter at Khargone, occupies south west boundary of Madhya Pradesh. Located between latitudes 21 degree 22' - 22 degree 35' (North) & longitudes 74 degree 25' - 76 degree 14' (East). Area - 8030 sq.km. Surrounded by Dhar, Indore & Dewas in the north, Maharashtra in the south, Khandwa, Burhanpur in the east and Barwani in the West. District forms almost central section of Narmada valley which is bordered by Vindhyachal ranges in north & Satpura ranges in south. Narmada is the main river flowing about 100 km in the district. Kunda & Veda are the main rivers. Dejla-Devada, Garhi-Galtar & Ambaknala are main irrigation projects.

Approach
District is well connected with Indore, Khandwa, Dhar, Jhabua, Jalgaon, Dhule, by road. The Agra-Bombay Road, National Highway No.3, passes through the district. The only railway line passes through the eastern parts of the district, is the Khandwa-Indore section of meter gauge line of the Western Railways. The important rail heads are Barwaha & Sanawad. Nearest broadguage railway station is Khandwa (89 kms) and nearest airport is Indore (143 kms).
