Brief About Kamrup District
WB’s poverty alleviation project kicked off
Aug 29, 2005
The Natural Resources Management and Integrated Livelihood programme
(NaRMIL), a rural development programme, was kicked off recently
in a meeting held at the Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko, which was
attended by Forest department officials of Assam and members of
the Centre for Rural Development, an NGO. The project is aimed at
reducing poverty by several income generating activities among 1,200
families of Bamunigaon, Bondapara and Singra forest ranges under
West Kamrup Forest Division. It may be mentioned here that the World
Bank has sanctioned two pilot projects to be executed on experimental
basis — one at Bamunigaon under West Kamrup Forest Division and
another at Hojai under Nagaon South Forest Division. The fund earmarked
for these two pilot projects is Rs 15 crore, official sources said.
