Brief About Jodhpur District
Black buck case: Salman pleads not guilty
June 04, 2005
Actor Salman Khan today pleaded not guilty in a Jodhpur court where
he finally recorded his statement in the black buck shooting case
of 1998. He is being tried in four cases registered against him
in 1998 for allegedly killing protected Black Bucks and Chinkaras
in forests around Jodhpur.
Location
Jodhpur district is centrally located in western
part of the state. It is headquarter of western districts of the
state, i.e., Pali, Jodhpur Nagaur, Sirohi, Barmer, Jalore and Jaisalmer.
It is boun by Bikaner and Jaisalmer districts in the north, Barmer
and Pali districts in south, Nagaur district in the east and Jaisalmer
district in the west.

Climate and Rainfall
- The minimum temperature has been recorded at 2 degrees Celsius

Administractive Setup
The district is divided into two sub-divisions,
i.e. Jodhpur & Phalodi and six tehsils, i.e. Jodhpur, Osian,
Phalodi, Bilara, Bhopalgarh and Balesar and nine panchayat samities.

Infrastructure
- Electricity
The main source of supply of power to Jodhpur
are Kota atomic power station, Bhakra-Vyas project, Rana Pratap
Sagar and Jawahar Sagar dams. Electrification of villages has
been done to the extent of 100 % out of 860 villages. Presently
there is one grid sub-station of 220 kva, six grid sub-section
of 132 kv & fifty two 33/11 kv sub stations upto 31 March
2000.
- Water
There are about 1313 tube wells in the district
and by and large major portion of the irrigation is being carried
out with the help of wells, which number about 15631. There
is a single river "Luni" which flows in the district
and 15,000 hectartes land area is being irrigated by it.
- Road Transport
The district has road connections with Sirohi, Pali, Bikaner,
Nagaur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Jalore, Barmer and Jaisalmer. The length
of the roads in the district is 5825 km as on 31 March 2000.
- Rail Transport
The district is directly connected by meter
gauge railway lines with Pali, Sirohi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner,
Nagaur, Jalore, Ahmedabad, Churu and by broad gauge railway
lines with Jaipur, Delhi, Kota, Mumbai, Howrah and Lucknow.
Total length of railway lines in the district is 344 km.
- Air Transport
Jodhpur is connected to Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer,
Delhi and Mumbai.
