Brief About Ganderwal District
District Srinagar comprises three Tehsils namely Srinagar Khas,Ganderbal
and Kangan. In view of contiguity, compactness and administrativeconvenience
of the area it would be appropriate to include two existing Tehsils
namelyGanderbal and Kangan in the newly created District Ganderbal
which is flanked byDistrict Baramulla in the west, District Srinagar
in the south, newly created DistrictBandipora in the north-west,
Arahome Forests in the north, District Ganderwal in the southand
District Kargil in the east. Ganderbal District enjoys a unique
geographical positionas it represents the last station depicting
all the scenic features of the Kashmir valley andthe gateway to
the sky-touching, denuded, magnificient and multicoloured mountainranges
of the famous “moon land” i.e. Ladakh. Added to this; the presence
of famoushealth resort Sonamarg and Mansbal lake on its fringes,
Qamar Sahib and Tulmullashrines in its lap and Sindh Nallah traversing
through; can contribute to the emergence ofthis area both as a recreation
and pilgrim tourist spot, triggering a chain of developmentactivities
that would catapult this region into economic prominence.
Ganderbal District is a newly formed district of the state of Jammu
and Kashmir of India.
Administration
Ganderbal district consists of 4 blocks: Ganderbal, Wakoora, Lar
and Kangan. Each block consists of a number of panchayats.
Politics
Ganderbal District has 2 assembly constituencies: Kangan and Ganderbal.
