Brief About Barwani District
District Barwani was formed on 25th May 1998. It
was carved out of West-Nimar, Khargone district. Barwani is situated
on the southern side of Madhya Pradesh as well as holy river Narmada.
District is surrounded by Satpuda (in South) and Vindhyachal (in
North) forest ranges. State of Maharashtra in South, Gujrat in far
West, district Khargone on the East and district Dhar on the North
form boundries of Barwani. District is triangular in shape with
the highest point in West. Area of the district is 3665 sq. Km.
with eastern boundary 363 Kms and southern 273 Kms.
Town Barwani was the capital of old Barwani State
before 1948. This small State was spared by British, Moughals and
Marathas because of its rocky tarrain and less productive soil.
The Rana dynesty ruled the state throught the history. The history
of this dynesty goes back to 13th century.
Town Barwani was also know as Badnagar and Siddha
Nagar. The place is also famous for Chool Giri, Jain pilgrimage
centre of Bawangaja
District Barwani has 2 Sub Divisions - Barwani
& Sendhawa, 6 Tahsils - Barwani, Sendhawa, Pansemal, Niwali, Thikari
and Rajpur, 7 Developmental Blocks - Barwani, Pati, Sendhawa, Pansemal,
Niwali, Thikari and Rajpur. There are 4 assembly constotuencies
- Anjad, Barwani, Sendhawa & Rajpur. First two are in Dhar parliamentary
constituency and rest two are in Khargone parliamentary constituency.
District has 384 panchayats and 646 villages -
576 revenue & 70 forest. Out of these villages, 560 are inhabitate
and 16 are un-inhabitate. There are 2 Nagar Palikas - Barwani, sendhawa
and 4 Nagar Panchayats - Pansemal, Khetiya, Rajpur, Anjad in the
district.
