Brief About Tapi District
In 2007, the Surat district of Gujarat state of India was divided
into two parts.
Surat district & Tapi district
Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Uchchhal and Nizar Talukas were included
in the Tapi district.
Vyara is a city, a municipality and the district headquarters
of the Tapi district which came into existence on 2nd October, 2007,
created by the Gujarat Government under Chief Minister Narendra
Modi. Tapi District consists of the five Talukas of Vyara, Songadh,
Valod, Nizar and Ucchal. The District was separated from the greater
Surat District.
Tribals and Muslims living in the newly-created district
of Tapi are not happy with the Gujarat government for carving out
a separate entity from Surat. Christian tribals, who constitute
a considerable chunk of the electorates of Vyara and Songadh constituencies
of Tapi, feel the new setup will further alienate tribals in the
region.
