Brief About South Andaman District

South Andaman (The east while Andaman District divided into two districts - South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman on 18th August 2006.)

South Andaman is one of the three districts of Andaman Nicobar Islands located in the Bay of Bengal Region. The Total Area of the District is 2980 Sq.Km. There are four primitive tribes in the South Andamans District and they have been recognised as belonging to the Negrito stock, namely Onges,Jarawas,Great Andamanese and sentinalese. The District of South Andaman has three tehsils namely "Port Blair"," Ferrargunj","Little Andaman".

The steps to make the district an e-District include:-
1. Progressive modernization and transformation of administration in form and content keeping in mind the centrality there of in regulating, facilitating and delivering services at the grass root level.
2. Bring about systematic changes to infuse and sustain vibrancy and responsiveness.
3. Promote knowledge sharing to realize continuous improvement in the quality of governance.

 

District of South Andamans is one of the three Districts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands is located in between logitude E 92° to E 94°’ and latitude N 6°’ to N 14°’ in the Bay of Bengal Region . The Total Area of South Andamans District is 2980 Sq.Km . There are four primitive tribes in the South Andamans District and they have been recognised as belonging to the Negrito stock, namely Onges,Jarawas,Great Andamanese and Sentinalese besides Nicobarese have been settled at Harminder Bay. The District of South Andaman has three tehsils namely "Port Blair"," Ferrargunj","Little Andaman". The Geographical,educational,economical and few other details are given below........

South Andaman : People And Culture

The People of Andaman can be broadly categorized into two groups viz. Indigenous or Aborigines and Immigrants or Settlers. Prior to 1858, the Andaman Islands were inhabited by Autochthons only and with the founding of Penal Settlement at Port Blair after Indian Mutiny, Non-autochthons came to inhabit these Islands.

Tehsil Statistical Details
The District of South Andaman consists of three tehsils namely PortBlair, Ferrargunj and Little Andaman.Each Tehsil is divided into villages. Port Blair Tehsil having 41 villages, Ferrargunj tehsils having 53 villages and little andaman tehsil have 5 villages. Each tehsil is administratively functions under Tehsildars is assisted with Revenue Inspectors, patwaries and other staffs to maintain the office activities.
