Brief About Namakkal District
History of Namakkal District
Namakkal District was bifurcated from Salem District
with Head Quarters as Namakkal with an Order issued by the Government
on 25-07-1998.Namakkal District started functioning as a separate
district with effect from 01-01-1997. It has two Revenue
Divisions, viz., Namakkal and Tiruchengode and four taluks
viz., Namakkal, Rasipuram, Tiruchengode and Paramathi-Velur.In Namakkal,
Kottai (Fort) area is on the west and the Pettai (Business) area
is on the east and at the centre is the rock Namagiri, which
is the source for the town's name.The fort covers an area of one
and a half acres of flat surface and is accessible from the southwest
by a flight of narrow steps. The namam (mark) is the white
and red graphic symbol of Vishnu. The symbol is depicted with two
white and one red vertical lines
